Don't Be A Victim To IRS Phone Scams

Today's criminals are becoming more sophisticated in their methods for obtaining your personal information.  Identity Theft reports are at a all time high.  You can protect yourself from falling into the trap.  One common tactic is to create a sense of urgency while on the phone.  An imposter will lead you to believe they work for the IRS and if you settle the balance due immediately you will avoid further actions by the IRS.  The truth is that the IRS will never contact you initially to collect a debt.  This brochure will help you recognize the signs to watch for.

Keeping Your Tax Records

What type of records should I keep?  How long should I keep my records?  Do I really need to keep copies of my returns and receipts?

These are all great questions and important to consider.  One of the best things you can do to protect yourself is to keep good records and keep them safe.  In the event the IRS questions a deduction or the amount of your income you will find having the proper documentation a life saver.   The pain of having a deduction disallowed is more painful than having to pay the tax in the first place.

Planning, the Key to Your Financial Future

Long term tax and financial planning can make the difference in your financial future.  Making the right choice in college funding plan or choosing the right type of retirement strategy can have huge impacts.  The rate of return on an investment is not the only consideration.  If there is also a tax advantage, the return could be greater than just making the decision based on the interest rate.
